Sea of Strengths Academy serves students in grades 1 through 8 with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Our students receive daily Orton-Gillingham instruction, which is also integrated across all subject areas. This schoolwide approach significantly enhances the impact of reading intervention and is made possible because all of our teachers are trained by an accredited Orton-Gillingham fellow.
In addition to reading support, students benefit from daily individualized math instruction. Our multi-sensory math program uses a wide range of manipulatives to teach concepts, helping students move from concrete understanding to more abstract thinking. Each student is encouraged to progress at a pace that best suits their individual learning needs.
Core academic subjects also include writing, literature, social studies, and science. Students enjoy a well-rounded experience with a quarterly specials rotation, which features Drama, Art, Health & Nutrition, and Life Skills.
What Is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability that affects a person’s ability to develop specific language skills, particularly reading. It is characterized by a cluster of symptoms that often include difficulties with spelling, writing, and pronouncing words. While dyslexia is most commonly identified during the school years, it is a lifelong condition. Its impact may vary over time, depending on the individual’s age, environment, and the level of support they receive.
